Install Android 2.2 Froyo Update on Motorola Droid 2, Droid X

Install Android 2.2 Froyo Update on Motorola Droid 2, Droid X. The official Android 2.2 Froyo update is now available for Motorola Droid users. You can choose to install the update using your Motorola Droid or using PC. This guide will explain how you can update your Motorola Droid to Android 2.2 Froyo manually using PC and it is restricted only to the Non-rooted stock 2.1 Droid users.

Firstly, you need to have a USB cable data to connect your phone to your PC and a SD card inside your Droid. Then download the update.zip file from here . Then connect your Droid to a computer via USB, Select “USB connected” from the notification panel. Click ‘Mount’ option. After mounted, Transfer the update.zip to root directory of your MicroSD Card. After finished transferring, Unmount MicroSD Card by Sliding down the notification panel and select “Turn off USB storage”.

Now you are ready to update your Droid. Turn off your phone and reboot in “Recovery” mode. You can do it by holding the power button while holding “X” key on your phone keyboard. Wait for a triangle with exclamation point to appear, and then release both buttons. After that, hold the volume up button and then press the camera button. When A text menu appear, go to “apply sdcard:update.zip” using the D-pad, and push the center button to select it. Then it will start the update process. Wait for a few minutes until complete. Ignore the error if you got it. When prompted to “Reboot system now” select it to reboot your phone and you have successfully update your Droid to the official Android 2.2 Froyo Software

(NOTE: Download to your PC and copy to your phone over USB to avoid "Signature verification failed. Installation aborted" issues caused by corrupt downloads!)
1) Download update.zip here!
2) Copy update.zip to the root of your SD card.
3) Shut off your DROID.
4) Turn on your DROID while holding down the physical X key on the keyboard.
5) When you see the exclamation image, like below, press the volume up and camera keys at the same time.

6) Using the D-Pad select the "apply sdcard:update.zip" and press the center (gold) button.
7) Watch the update install and enjoy Android v2.2 (FRG01B/FROYO)!
